Petsmart Days
Volunteers and Potential Adopters take a look.
If you’re a Critter Lovin’ People-Person you might consider becoming one of our Petsmart volunteers!!!
Every Saturday we bring about a dozen of our furry Free To Live friends (that’s dogs and cats !!) to one of the local Petsmarts to show them off and help find them new loving, permanent homes. We are there from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and spend the time meeting people, showing off the animals, and making new friends (of both the two-legged and four-pawed variety). Due to the excitement of the animals in this strange environment, it can get a little crazy at times. We can usually use extra volunteers to help us handle the pets and interested visitors.
Handy skills for these volunteering include levitation (this occurs when you walk the larger dogs to the outside "relief yard"), having a quick "left and right" (for opening the cage door with your left hand and putting the cat or dog back inside with your right hand), and a few people, marketing, form filling out, and sales skills "well we’re not sure exactly what it is but it’s definitely a custom job!".
Just drop by to see what’s going on and meet our dedicated volunteers along with our special furry friends of the week. You’ll see it’s not only fulfilling, but a lot of fun! Or email one of our coordinators and setup a time to volunteer. We really could use some more help and friendly faces.
How our Petsmart Saturdays are organized
We have five loosely organized teams of regular volunteers that work together one Saturday a month on a rotating basis. That way our volunteers have their own "team," get familiar with their group and don’t have to struggle with new names each time they help out. Each team has an assigned volunteer Team Captain who is responsible for making sure all the paperwork is completed and the proper information is exchanged with the pet's new family when an adoption occurs. These Team Captains coordinate their Saturday’s work schedule and make sure that enough people are called and signed up to work when needed. A Free To Live employee drives the animals to Petsmart (and back again) each Saturday so that volunteers don’t have to wrestle with the cages clunking around in their car.
Free To Live volunteers assist with the adoptions at both the Edmond location (near 15th on Broadway) on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays of the month and at the Quail Springs store at N. Penn and Memorial Road on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays. Our great volunteers make it possible to give the animals exposure at both locations throughout the month. Some of these folks have been assisting with the adoptions since before either one of these stores were opened!
A big thanks to our team captains who put our Petsmart Adoption Saturdays together each week. If you’d like to help too, contact one of these devoted volunteers about joining their team:
Also a special thanks to Carrie Bryan, our substitute, who can often be found Saturdays at Petsmart helping the various teams.
By joining us just one day a month you can make a difference in an animal's chance to be adopted. It’s such a great feeling when another pet finds a loving home! Thank you for caring.
We really could use more volunteers!
