Cat Kennel Volunteer Duties
YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 16 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER
FOR YOUR SAFETY, WE ASK THAT YOU WEAR SHOES THAT ENCLOSE YOUR FEET, SUCH AS SNEAKERS OR WORK SHOES.
The Cattery Keeper will give you direction on which o the duties need to be done and show you how to perform these duties. Any supplies or tools that you need will be supplied. These duties are for the main cattery and small isolation buildings; similar duties may be required in the kitten side of the large isolation building. The Cattery Keeper will direct you in these areas.
The Duties could include the following:
Clean food and water bowls as directed, then refill with fresh food and water.
Put fresh rugs in cat houses and crates.
Laundry:
Collect dirty rugs and cubbyhole mats, take to washer/dryer in main dog kennel, start first load and continue laundry loads until all is complete, monitoring while doing other duties. After laundry is done and cat area is clean, replace clean mats in cubby holes and rugs on floors.
Walls, cubby holes and other surfaces:
Wash walls above all cubby hole areas, inside cubby holes and any surface the cats lay on with a solution of bleach and water. Clean glass doors and windows with windex.
Floors:
Sweep floor area, then mop with a solution of bleach and water.
Food and water:
Clean food and water bowls as directed, then refill with fresh food and water.
Litter boxes:
As directed, either change litter boxes (dispose of old litter, then sanitize litter boxes and refill with fresh litter) or scoop cat waste from litter boxes.
Outside area:
Wash toys, tables, chairs and any of the other things that are used by the cats. Wash concrete surface thoroughly with the hose.
Recheck all litter boxes, scooping any cat waste.
Pick up trash around cat kennel areas.
