Why does the world need a sanctuary?

Sanctuary by definition is a place of refuge or safety. From leukemia cats to feral dogs, Free to Live is a place of safety and refuge for some of Oklahoma’s most vulnerable dogs and cats.

We believe there is no place like a home and we have watched the changes that occur in a dog or cat with the devoted attention of a foster or adopter. But what happens to those dogs and cats that don’t have the opportunity to get in a home quickly? What if they need a bit more time to learn to trust or heal again?

We commit our lives to those animals who need care the most. Without the safety of sanctuary so many of these dogs and cats would not be alive today.

Join us this holiday season in sponsoring one of our many deserving dogs and cats. Each one is loved beyond measure and what better gift during the holidays than the gift of life?

For your $300 sponsorship, we will send you a bio and photo of your sponsored pet – the best gift to give your family, as well as the dog or cat you choose to sponsor!

Simone – Birthday 2015

Simone was rescued from a hoarding situation with her son, Sawyer. She gives the best hugs and is our ace dog walk, child entertainer. Simone has been with us for so many years because she has a heart condition that requires daily medication and evaluation. She is full of life and love. We can’t imagine her not being in this world.

Gilbert – Birthday 2009

Gilbert is a super shy senior who also battles irritable bowel syndrome and takes daily medication. He is shy around humans, but great with other dogs. His best friend, Tyler, passed in the fall and though he is a bit down, we know he will still bring so much joy to his new kennel friends.

Augusta and Beauregard – Birthday 2016

Gus and Beau came to us as the last two dogs deemed “unadoptable” from a large hoarding case in Texas. They were thin and covered in mange, but you could still see the hope in their eyes. They now enjoy watching staff move around property and treat days. Each day they come a bit more out of their shells, and we are thankful to give them an opportunity at rehabilitation.

Fritzi – Birthday 2010

Fritzi has a distinct bark. We suspect someone had attempted to debark her at some point before she got to us. She is extremely dog aggressive, so we take great care in ensuring she has what she needs to be successful here. She is a favorite among staff and loves pets from her friends.

Stassi – Birthday 2016

Stassi brings joy wherever she goes! She was adopted as a puppy and then her owner passed away. She was found on the side of the road in Stillwater. Thankfully her microchip led her back to us. She has been making us laugh ever since! She needs daily medication to help manage urinary incontinence.

Tex Norman – Birthday 2015

Tex Norman lived most of his life alone in a backyard. He was abandoned in that same backyard when his family moved out. A kind neighbor helped him transition to us. He was heartworm positive and had skin issues that caused his hair to grow in patches. He is now heartworm free but still deals with constant skin and ear infections. He is learning how to trust humans again and we are thankful to be able to give him the time and space to heal.

Seamus – Birthday 2009

Seamus has had terrible allergies his entire life. They have caused skin infections and hair loss, making a daily balance of baths, creams and medications necessary. He takes regular trips to the skin doctor and without intervention, his life would be uncomfortable to say the least. When he was able to move into a forever foster home with kennel tech, Wyatt, his life improved more than we could ever imagine. His sponsorship helps provide for Seamus’s daily care that would be out of financial reach for most individuals.

Slim Jim – Birthday 2013

Slim Jim was found at a truck stop. Despite the numerous bowls of food around him, he was skin and bones. Due to his body condition, we had to kill slowly the heartworms in his body. He also has a complicated case of diabetes combined with epilepsy that requires dedicated around-the-clock care.

Sponsor Me

Lisa – Birthday 2008

Lisa has a neurological disorder that causes her body to lose mobility slowly. She likes her routine and loves to stay cozied in her room at night and likes to lie on her mats during the day and feel the sun on her face.

Runner – Birthday 2008

Runner has back and muscle pain that requires daily supervision and medication. He enjoys taking life easy and enjoys his time in dog walk with his friends.

Blackjack – Birthday 2008

Blackjack is affectionate and already very loved in the cattery. He was returned to us and we have been treating his irritable bowel syndrome with special food and medication.

Harley – Birthday 2006

Harley is a “sleeper” in the cattery, meaning he is an awesome cat who gets constantly overlooked because of his special needs. He requires prescription urinary food to stay healthy.

Luna – Birthday 2010

Luna is a social butterfly in the leukemia room, always ready to greet you! For most cats in Oklahoma, a leukemia diagnosis at birth is a death sentence. Not at Free to Live! We have a building dedicated to their care and have seen them live long and happy lives!

Sponsor Me

Charlie Chaplin – Birthday 2015

Charlie Chaplin is a favorite in the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus room! He doesn’t let FIV slow down his love for everyone and his love for food. He is a BIG guy! With his suppressed immune system, we are grateful for a space to help keep him safe!

Higgins – Birthday 2013

Higgins rules his roost in the kitchen of the FIV and Leukemia building. He supervises all laundry and food preparation. He doesn’t like other cats, so we had to find a special place for him to thrive. He even has his very-own, enclosed outdoor patio.

Sponsor Me

Cynder – Birthday 2016

Cynder is the real boss of Free to Live. He runs a tight schedule for staff, requiring outdoor leash time and uninterrupted napping. He needs daily medication for his allergies and a monthly inhaler. He also receives breathing treatments and requires a space with a humidifier.

Lenox – Birthday 2008

When he ran onto property and jumped in staff’s lap one night, we knew this guy needed serious help. We initially thought he had a mass behind his nose, but soon learned he had an infection that was making his life unbearable. With the help of special medication, we got the infection cleared and he moved into our leukemia room to enjoy life with his new friends.

Jolene – Birthday 2018

Let’s just be clear – Jolene will take your man. This stunner is FIV positive, but that doesn’t stop her from charming everyone who meets her. She would love to have a person all her own. Until then we will keep her healthy and happy with your help.

Moxi – Birthday 2009

He is a staple in main cattery. You will recognize instantly his big orange face when he comes over for pets. We can’t imagine the cattery without Moxie in it. He brings so much life to everything he does!

Sponsor Me

Mortimer – Birthday 2009

Why is the sink left on in main cattery? That drip is all for Mortimer. He likes to perch on the sink to greet visitors and steal drinks. He is a big flirt with a permanent one-eyed wink!
