We are hosting an event in celebration of our opening day 40 years ago! The event is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Roughtail Brewery in Oklahoma City. We hope to see all our supporters, adopters and volunteers.
The 40-year-old sanctuary, Free to Live, is located in north Edmond and is home to many of the state’s homeless and unwanted cats and dogs. While the sanctuary facilitates adoptions of hundreds of pets each year, there are more than 100 cats and dogs that have become permanent residents of Free to Live due to special needs, age or health concerns. As a nonprofit, Free to Live is supported entirely by donations. Every year, as the organization grows and takes in more animals, the financial needs increase as well.
“We are so thankful to be able to say we have supported the community – animals and human – for the last 40 years. The first opening invite was typed on a typewriter, and said we aren’t done yet, but are going to open anyway. Much like them, we know our mission of saving some of Oklahoma’s most vulnerable animals is never done, but we are going to celebrate anyway,” said Free to Live’s Executive Director Reagan Hamlin.
There is no cost to attend and live music will be provided by Jeff Curran from OKC’s Wise Guys.
