As we discussed in a previous newsletter, feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) attacks the immune system of cats, leaving them vulnerable to infections. It is found in nearly three percent of the cat population in the United States. It can be transferred through bites/altercations, or to kittens through the mother’s milk.
At Free to Live we have an entire building dedicated to this issue because this diagnosis does not mean a death sentence for these cats.
We may be biased but the FIV/Leukemia building on property has some of the sweetest cats, including Mr. Quaid.
He came to us as a kitten with his siblings and mother. He was the only FIV+ kitten in the litter. For six years, he waited for his person. He found that and more when a dedicated volunteer came out and fell in love.
We are so grateful to have the opportunity to give cats like Quaid the space and time to find their perfect homes.
