Volunteers shared a video with us of shy Aerion trotting across the play yard. The sight made our hearts swell with hope.
It is tough to crack the code for dogs like Aerion. After living as a stray, they often hang back in their pen because people can still feel a bit scary. Here he was all smiles moving happily through the sea of other dogs. Those dogs in the space making all the difference for him.
We were the fortunate recipients of a grant through the Pedigree Foundation that allowed us to learn how to create safe playgroups with the dogs across property.
These playgroups have increased our residents’ sociability, happiness and overall morale. Dogs who came in semi-feral now happily trotting over to play, dogs who struggled to relax in their kennel space now quiet after playgroup, and volunteers trained to make a difference with their time — we feel so fortunate to bring these benefits to property! We know these efforts will only continue to help our dogs have the best chance at success.
